Cone Beam Computed Tomography Coming to Your Practice

As PDS® continues to support dental practices in providing modern dentistry, we are pleased to announce a landmark decision for our organization: We have partnered with KaVo Kerr to make cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) an enhancement to the PDS platform for all supported practices. This enhancement is part of our promise to provide supported clinicians with the latest, proven technology as we help them become the provider of choice in the markets they serve.

About CBCT Technology

The addition of CBCT technology brings many benefits to your supported practice, including:

  • Improved patient experience with faster workflow
    • FMX time potentially reduced to 4-6 minutes
  • Improved diagnosis capabilities
    • Enables clinicians to see more of an oral disease
  • Increased case acceptance
  • Improved clinical excellence
  • Improved ability to attract and retain high-performing clinicians

Just as we experienced tremendous benefits and challenges during our organization’s CEREC® journey, the integration of CBCT will come with a learning curve. We know that for many, change can sometimes be a challenge, which is why we are partnering with the vendor to provide comprehensive training for you and your teams. As part of the training process, we will be adding CBCT to the PDS University™- Institute of Dentistry curriculum. Dr. XXXX will serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME), supporting the deployment of this technology with essential documentation and training. Dr. XXXX will soon be followed by other SMEs specializing in sleep, implants, endo, and Perio, to name a few. During deployment, we will also provide a body of resources available via a dedicated CBCT homepage on PDS Connect Online. We hope you will see the incredible benefits of CBCT for both your practice and your patients.

Coming to All De Novo Practices

All De Novo practices will now be equipped with CBCT as a standard in place of traditional pano technology. The De Novo team will manage installation as part of their checklist for all office openings.

To schedule training for each De Novo practice, the Engage IT team will initiate communication to each office and Regional Back Office Trainer (RBOT). Schedule permitting, most De Novo practices will be trained to use CBCT the Friday prior to opening.

Existing Offices

Our CBCT team has carefully planned the deployment of this technology for existing offices. We will work closely with our Regional Partners to schedule the most efficient installation and training with the least impact to your practice’s operations. Each RP has already received a summary of the following:

  • Estimated value of your practice’s current PAN. Based on this value, we will provide a trade in price for your new CBCT unit.
  • Information regarding PC Refresh should your practice need an update prior to CBCT installation.
  • Payment options, including cash and financing.

Please partner with your RP to navigate and determine your team’s decided course of action.

Deployment Timeline

Our goal is to intentionally pace deployment to ensure your team’s success. By June 2020, we plan to complete installation of approximately 75 CBCT units. This will include a combination of De Novo and existing practices. The rollout of CBCT in existing practices will occur gradually throughout 2020 and beyond. We anticipate the complete deployment of CBCT to take between three and four years. The selection criteria for practices to receive CBCT will proceed in the following order:

  • Existing practices with non-functioning units, offices with invested cash greater than $200,000, or those making a cash purchase will be afforded the first opportunity.
  • This will be followed by offices with less than $200,000 in cash with an NOI greater than 15% who need to finance.
  • Generally, offices with short-term debt will not be in the first few rounds of deployment.

This announcement comes as part of our commitment to modern dentistry with proven technology. For questions about the launch of this CBCT program, please contact XXXX.
