One of our most popular Youth Education programs is a two-hour immersive experience for 3rd grade and above. Students will explore America’s multicultural legacy and dive into personal stories of migration and immigration. The program journeys into the past to discover the challenges faced by immigrants travelling to the U.S. in the 19th and 20th centuries. By hearing the family stories of noted celebrities, students realize the importance of speaking to relatives about their family history and are encouraged to identify their own mentors and role models.
In our Youth Violence Prevention workshop designed for 8th grade and above, experienced facilitators engage students in dialogue on gender violence, bullying, and harassment using the acclaimed Mentors for Violence Prevention (MVP) model. In a creative bystander approach, the model uses real life scenarios that speak to the experiences of middle and high school students. The workshop raises student awareness of the experiences of others, broadens options for alternatives to violence, and empowers students to undertake effective interventions.
As an addition to your visit, the museum offers a variety of arts based activities. Students in 3rd grade and above are guided through hands-on creative activities, such as historical printmaking, cultural artwork, and group exercises that enable them to reflect on the Museum experience, explore personal assumptions and biases, express aspirations, and expand their understanding of powerful symbolic imagery.
When you bring your students to the interactive halls of the Museum of Tolerance, every experience is designed to support and advance your classroom goals and curriculum. Whether you choose a two-hour tour or a full-day customized program, your students will leave the museum empowered to create respectful and inclusive communities.
